American Express Credit Cards
American Express · 4 cards we compare
Amex sells you credits, not simplicity. The Platinum and Gold both carry big annual fees that are offset by a long list of narrow statement credits — Uber, Resy, Dunkin’, Lululemon — and they only pay off if you actually spend in those exact places. Do the arithmetic honestly before you apply: on paper Gold returns $524 against a $325 fee, but only if you use all five credits. The two Blue Cash cards are the opposite: plain, capped, and easy to understand.

Dining credits get a 2026 refresh
Amex reworked the Gold Card’s monthly dining credit this year. Buffalo Wild Wings, Five Guys, The Cheesecake Factory, and Wonder joined Grubhub as eligible spots, while Goldbelly and Wine.com dropped off. The annual fee stays $325, and the card still carries up to $424 in yearly credits, including $84 in Dunkin’ and $100 in Resy dining.
Welcome-offer spend requirement jumps to $12,000
As of February 5, 2026, the minimum spend needed to earn the welcome bonus rose from $8,000 to $12,000 in the first 6 months. Offers remain targeted and go as high as 175,000 points.
5x points on prepaid hotels
The biggest earning change of the 2026 refresh: prepaid hotel bookings through Amex Travel now earn 5x Membership Rewards points, up from 1x — putting Gold on par with Platinum for hotel bookings.
Disney credit raised to $10/month — and the minimum spend is gone
The streaming credit went from $7 to $10 a month ($84 → $120 a year), it now covers a broader set of services, and Amex dropped the old $9.99 minimum-spend requirement. The credit alone now outruns the $95 fee.
Disney streaming credit gets easier to use
The $7 monthly credit now covers a broader range of eligible streaming services and no longer requires a minimum spend — you just need to enroll. That’s $84 a year on a card with no annual fee.
New dining partners & Hertz status
The $10 monthly dining credit now covers Grubhub, Five Guys, The Cheesecake Factory, Buffalo Wild Wings and Wonder. Cardmembers also get complimentary Hertz Five Star status.
$524 in credits against a $325 fee
Stack the $120 dining, $120 Uber Cash, $100 Resy, $100 Hotel Collection and $84 Dunkin’ credits and the card more than pays for itself — but only if you actually spend in those specific places.
Still the strongest supermarket rate we track
6% back at U.S. supermarkets on up to $6,000 a year is the highest grocery rate on any card in our comparison — worth $360 a year if you max it out.
Welcome offer holds at $300
The current offer is $300 back after $3,000 of spending in the first 6 months, and Amex often pairs it with a waived first-year annual fee.
Welcome offer holds at $200
Earn $200 back after spending $2,000 in the first 6 months — a solid bonus for a card that costs nothing to keep.
0% intro APR for 15 months
Purchases and balance transfers get 0% for the first 15 months, then 19.49%–28.49% variable — three months longer than the Blue Cash Preferred’s intro period.
