Chase Credit Cards
Chase · 5 cards we compare
Chase runs the most complete card ladder in the business. The trick is that every Chase card earns the same Ultimate Rewards® points — but only a Sapphire or Ink card can transfer them to airlines. So the no-fee Freedom cards look like plain cash-back cards on their own, and quietly become 5x travel cards the moment you also hold a Sapphire. Most people who do well with Chase hold two cards, not one.

Every change across the lineup — newest first, tagged by card.
No more foreign transaction fee; cell phone protection ended
Effective September 20, 2026, the Freedom Flex dropped its 3% foreign transaction fee, making it a no-FX-fee card for travel. The same change discontinued the card cell phone protection benefit.
Reserve overhaul: new credits, higher fee
The Sapphire Reserve got its biggest refresh yet in 2026. The annual fee rose to $795, but the card added a $300 annual travel credit plus monthly Peloton, Lyft, and DoorDash credits and up to $500 a year in hotel credits through Chase’s Edit collection. Existing cardholders see the new fee on their next anniversary.
Welcome bonus drops to 75,000 points
Chase’s record-high 75,000-point welcome offer on the Sapphire Preferred ended July 30, 2026. New applicants now earn 75,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 in the first three months — still one of the strongest starter travel bonuses, just below the brief all-time high. The card kept its $95 annual fee after a mid-2026 benefits refresh.
The 90,000-point offer has ended
Southwest’s limited-time 90,000-point welcome offer expired July 2, 2026. The card is back to its standard 60,000 points after $2,000 in the first 3 months.
Biggest refresh yet — same $95 fee
Chase added 3x points on gas & EV charging and on vacation rentals (Airbnb, Vrbo), doubled the annual hotel credit to $100, and added a $120 Global Entry/TSA credit plus a complimentary year of Apple TV+ — all with no annual-fee increase.
Welcome bonus back to $200 after the $250 offer ended
Chase ran a limited-time $250 bonus (on just $500 of spend) that expired April 30, 2026. The standard offer is now $200 after $500 in the first 3 months — still one of the lowest spend requirements of any card we track.
The Edit hotel credit is now fully flexible
Chase removed the biannual split — the credit can now be used anytime between January 1 and December 31, making it easier to capture the full value.
Don’t forget to activate this quarter
The 5% categories rotate every three months and require activation — Chase does not enroll you automatically. Set a calendar reminder, or the card quietly drops to 1%.
Welcome bonus raised to 75,000 points
New cardholders can earn 75,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 in the first 3 months — up from the long-standing 60,000-point offer.
The trade-offs: anniversary bonus & Hyatt transfers cut
The 10% anniversary points bonus is being eliminated, and the Hyatt transfer ratio drops to 4:3 for Sapphire Preferred — 1,000 Chase points now convert to 750 Hyatt points.
New $250 Chase Travel hotel credit
A 2026-only credit for prepaid “Pay Now” stays of 2+ nights at select brands, which can stack with The Edit credit for up to $500 back on a single qualifying stay.
$75k-spend tier adds World of Hyatt Explorist status
Spending $75,000 in a calendar year now unlocks mid-tier World of Hyatt Explorist status — normally 30 nights — alongside IHG Diamond and Southwest A-List, good for the rest of that year and all of the next.
Lyft bonus extended through September 2027
The 2% back on Lyft rides booked in the app now runs through September 30, 2027, up from the previous 2025 expiration.
5% on Chase Travel remains the card’s best rate
Booking flights, hotels and rental cars through the Chase Travel℠ portal still earns 5% back — the highest rate on the card, and a reason to pair it with a Sapphire card for transfer-partner access.
$200 bonus on only $500 of spend
Same easy welcome bonus as the Freedom Unlimited — $200 back after $500 in the first 3 months.
Annual fee jumps to $229 — but earning improves
Chase raised the Priority card’s annual fee from $149 to $229 (existing cardholders see it on their 2026 anniversary). In exchange, Southwest purchases now earn 4x (up from 3x) and restaurants and gas stations earn 2x with no annual cap.
Seat selection perks arrive with assigned seating
With Southwest moving to assigned seats, the card now includes Standard or Preferred seat selection at booking and unlimited Extra Legroom upgrades within 48 hours of departure — for the cardholder plus up to eight passengers on the same reservation.
Major refresh: annual fee raised to $795
The card’s annual fee increased from $550 to $795 alongside a benefits overhaul, adding a $300 DoorDash credit and monthly Lyft in-app credits.
